Description & Requirements

This role is responsible for leading the development of our electro-mechanical products, taking them through the design lifecycle, ensuring suitability for manufacture and compliance with customer requirements. The ideal candidate will require project engineering, design, and requirement analysis skillsets to enable high quality outputs. You must also appreciate the wider understanding of engineering in terms of design for safety, security, maintainability, and manufacturability. You will be expected to provide expertise and leadership to the hardware engineers in the development of electro-mechanical products. You will be expected to lead the most complex and critical projects and problems, managing risks and driving a cross-functional team to deliver high quality to stringent deadlines. In addition, you will be expected to support the hardware engineering manager in the execution of strategic hardware goals, including development of people, processes and tools. In this position you will be the technical expert on a dedicated project(s) and be responsible for driving the product development, supported by the specific engineering design functions. 

Essential Responsibilities:

Lead technical work packages alongside experienced project managers, to demonstrate progress and balance technical risks

Deliver functional deliverables to cost and schedule

Manage the Technical Compliance Matrix for the product or equipment

Major contributor in technical progress meetings and milestone reviews with the customer

Understand and contribute to the key activities in the engineering development lifecycle such as design reviews (PDR/DDR/CDR)

Work within a multi-discipline engineering team (e.g. Systems, mechanical, electrical, software etc...)

Responsible for the quality of deliverables from the function, reviewing deliverables produced by engineers, ensuring processes are followed within the various projects.

Limit technical risks through application of mitigation strategies 

Ensure technical excellence and quality standards across all design phases, including prototyping, testing, and validation

Operate in the early lifecycle of a project, to drive technical direction for the equipment under development and clarify stakeholder needs

Expected to liaise with customers and suppliers professionally regarding projects, able to communicate complicated issues and solutions effectively, building trust with external stakeholders.

Develop relationships with engineering project leads, programmes and cross-functions to ensure engineering aspects are considered, planned and executed

Lead engineering work packages and projects, coordinating a multi-functional engineering team to deliver against cost and schedule.


Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited institution. 

Able to demonstrate experience in technical requirements capture and compliance

Knowledge of process design, including equipment and tooling with demonstrated results

Mechanical and electrical design knowledge

Experience in a defence/ aerospace project design environment.

Strong project and time management, organizational, and analytical skills.

Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, from production associates to the leadership team.
