It’s exciting times at Axis Electronics, as part of the international Cicor Group, we have ambitious growth plans over the next 5 years, recently acquiring 3 new sites in the UK which expands our opportunity for growth and your opportunity to develop your career with a major player in the UK EMS contract manufacturing. 

As you’d expect from a market leading contract manufacturer, we have an impressive list of prestige customers, leading the way with cutting edge technology in safety critical products predominately within the Aerospace & Defence sector and it’s our mission to provide them with high technology, high reliability Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS).  Our people are crucial to our success and this role is pivotal to realising our ambitions by meeting our on-time delivery commitments.  Due to our growth, we are expanding our team and looking for two Manufacturing Engineering Apprentices to join our team. 


Apprenticeship Details: 


Programme: Level 3 Manufacturing 

Duration: 4 years

Provider: Bedford College 

Location: Axis Electronics 

Working Hours: Monday -Thursday: 07:30am-16:30pm, Friday 07:30am-12:30pm. Attendance at college will be 2 days in 1st year and 1 day in the 2nd year 

Start Date: September 2025


Job Purpose:


As an apprentice with Axis Electronics you will be given the opportunity to move around the company, working in various areas of the business staying with each department for six months at a time under the supervision of experienced colleagues, combining on-the-job training with structured learning. During your apprenticeship you will cover the following over your three year programme:

 

  • Component preparation 
  • Mechanical Assembly 
  • Surface Mount Technology 
  • Flow Solder Operation 
  • Soldering 
  • Production Engineering 
  • Test Engineering
  • Stores 
  • Goods in & Goods out 

 

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Participate in a planned learning programme that combines hands-on experience with off-the-job study
  • Supporting manufacturing cells in the production of Printed Circuit Board Assembly, moving around the company every 6 months and gain exposure in various areas of the business. 
  • Learn to operate tools, machinery, and equipment safely and effectively under supervision
  • Assist in the assembly, inspection, and testing of products according to work instructions and quality standards 
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment in accordance with 5S and health& safety policies 
  • Work collaboratively with team members to meet production targets and deadlines

 

What we are looking for:


Qualifications

 

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 4/C or above in Maths, English, and ideally Science or Design & Technology
  • A Level or BTEC level 3 preferred 

 

Skills required:  

 

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Accuracy 
  • Good organisation 
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in following instructions.
  • Good manual dexterity and willingness to work hands-on with machinery and tools.
  • Ability to follow instructions
