Description & Requirements

Job Purpose:

The purpose of this role is to ensure that all products are accurately and consistently inspected using the CyberOptics 3D AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) systems, in line with both Axis internal standards and wider industry quality requirements. The role will initially focus on collaborating with the Process Engineering team to enhance and optimise AOI programming and inspection processes. As the role develops, the AOI Operator will take ownership of ongoing improvements, ensuring that inspection capabilities evolve in line with software advancements and production needs. This position is key to maintaining high standards of quality and supporting the continuous improvement of inspection practices within the manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, program, and optimise 3D AOI inspection routines using CyberOptics systems, with a focus on accurate solder joint inspection and component placement.
  • Perform detailed First Article Inspections (FAI) to validate PCB assemblies against build and quality standards.
  • Train, coach, and support AOI operators to ensure correct operation of inspection equipment and consistent application of quality criteria.
  • Analyse inspection results and work collaboratively with Engineering and Production teams to identify trends and provide actionable feedback for process improvements.
  • Maintain and update AOI programs in line with design changes, new product introductions (NPI), and software updates.
  • Ensure inspection processes meet internal quality standards and IPC-A-610 requirements.
  • Participate in ongoing initiatives for continuous improvement, quality assurance, and yield enhancement.

 Person Specification:

  • Previous experience operating AOI equipment (e.g., Koh Young, Mirtec, CyberOptics, Omron, or similar).
  • Familiarity with SMT and PCB assembly processes.
  • Ability to read assembly drawings and interpret component placement files.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality-focused mindset.
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to use inspection software.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and follow work instructions.
