Job Purpose:
The First-Off Inspection operator plays a key role in ensuring product quality at the start of each production batch. This role involves performing detailed inspections of first-off units against engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards to verify that components meet required criteria before full production is released. The FOI operator acts as a quality gatekeeper, helping to reduce defects, improve process consistency, and ensure customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
- Perform first-off inspections by conducting detailed visual and dimensional checks on the initial unit of each batch.
- Reference technical drawings, work instructions, and quality standards to verify compliance.
- Validate component placement, solder quality, torque settings, and any critical or customer-specified features.
- Accurately complete and maintain inspection records using FOI checklists, batch documentation, or digital quality systems.
- Communicate inspection results clearly to production teams and escalate non-conformances immediately.
- Work closely with Quality, Engineering, and Production Team Leaders to resolve issues before batch sign-off.
- Ensure all inspection activities are traceable and documented in real time to meet audit and regulatory requirements.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying repeat FOI issues and contributing to corrective actions and quality initiatives.
Person Specification:
- Previous experience in manufacturing or quality inspection (electronic/mechanical assembly preferred).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Proficient in the use of hand measurement tools (e.g. calipers, micrometers, gauges).
- Familiarity with visual inspection criteria for soldering, component alignment, or assembly quality.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality standards.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 or other quality management systems is desirable.
